Plain-English definitions for the terminology used across Football Compass.
- Accumulator
- a bet that combines two or more picks, and all must win for the bet to pay out.
- Anytime Goalscorer
- a bet on a player scoring at least one goal at any point during the match.
- Asian Handicap
- a handicap given to a team that eliminates the draw option, expressed in whole or half goals.
- Bankroll
- the total amount of money you have set aside for betting.
- Both Teams To Score
- a bet on whether both sides will score at least one goal during the match.
- Cash Out
- a feature that lets you settle a bet before the event ends, locking in a profit or loss.
- Correct Score
- a bet that predicts the exact final score of a match.
- Decimal Odds
- a way to show odds as a single number that includes the stake, used to calculate total returns.
- Double Chance
- a bet that covers two of the three possible outcomes (home win/draw, away win/draw, or home win/away win).
- Draw No Bet
- a bet that refunds your stake if the match ends in a draw, leaving only a win for either side.
- Each Way
- a bet that consists of two parts—a win bet and a place bet—usually used in outright markets.
- First Goalscorer
- a bet on which player will score the first goal in the match.
- Free Bet
- a bonus credit given by a bookmaker that can be used to place a bet, with any winnings returned but the stake not refunded.
- Goal Line
- the line set by the bookmaker for the total number of goals in a match, used in Over/Under bets.
- Handicap Betting
- a type of bet that gives one team a fictional advantage or disadvantage to level the playing field.
- In-Play Betting
- placing bets on a match while it is already in progress, with odds that update as the game unfolds.
- Moneyline
- a straightforward bet on which team will win the match, with no point spread involved.
- Over/Under
- a bet on whether the total number of goals in a match will be higher or lower than a set line.
- Parlay
- a bet that links multiple selections, similar to an accumulator, where all must win for a payout.
- Stake
- the amount of money you place on a bet.
- Unit
- a standardized measure of the size of a bet, often a percentage of your bankroll.
- Value Bet
- a bet where the odds offered are higher than the true probability of the outcome, giving an expected profit.
- Vig
- the commission that a bookmaker charges on a bet, built into the odds.
- Void Bet
- a bet that is cancelled and the stake is returned, usually because the event did not happen.
- Wagering Requirement
- a condition that states how many times you must bet a bonus before you can withdraw any winnings.
